Subdued day in Wheeling

It was unnaturally quiet at Wheeling Island today, where I sat down for six hours of 1-2 NL as the snow whipped around outside. Apparently, the winter weather scared plenty of people off, as open seats were everywhere in the poker room. (Reportedly, the morning tourney was only half-filled.)

My play was uneventful, too. Bought in for $200; cashed out for $261. The only thing worth talking about is a small-to-medium-sized pot I may have been bluffed out of. I raised $11 pre-flop with A-K and got one caller. The flop came A-J-blank, two diamonds, and the other guy, who's first to act, checked. I bet $20, and he called. The turn came 10c. He immediately went all-in for $89. Now, I've sat with this guy once before. I know he's a good player, really knows the game, is not afraid to make a move on somebody. But how much of a scare card was that 10, really? Did he want me to think he hit the straight? He's not going to call a $20 bet with Q-K, unless they were diamonds and he also had the flush draw. And even if that's exactly what he had, why wouldn't he slow-play it and let me bet into him once he hit?

The only logical hand to put him on was A-10. (Unless he had some kind of monster, smooth-called my $20 after the flop and was now worried about me hitting a straight.) Either way, I'm going to lose. If it was earlier in the day, I probably would have called just to look him up and let him know I can't always be pushed out of a pot. But I was closer to leavin' than comin', so I folded top pair, top kicker. I wonder if it was a good laydown or not.

UPDATE: My poker-scholar buddy thinks the guy either had J-10 or bought the pot from me. The world will never know ...
